I’m Jennifer Tatroe (pronounced TAY-troe). I write about mindfulness, sustainability, and creative work, while I practice slow living in the big city of Los Angeles.

I was raised in central Illinois and, after a detour to the suburbs of Seattle and almost twenty years in Colorado, I now live in North Hollywood with my husband, Kevin, and almost-adult son, Hadden.

I’ve published numerous short stories in print and online publications, including the flash fiction story, “Gone,” which was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2008. My previous, award-winning, blogs include Elphaba, Diary Of and Stomping Shoes.

I also used to make and sell handcrafted paper flowers and plants. My online shop, J.H. Tatroe, is closed now, but you can still see my portfolio at this site.

From Jenn was founded with three core beliefs in mind:

  1. A mindful life is beautiful. No matter where we live or how much money we have, we should have moments of tranquility and moments of awe and moments where our hearts feel full every single day—and we probably would if we stopped being too busy to notice them.

    2. Sustainability is non-negotiable. Sustainability isn’t just a vague proposition about being better environmentalists. It’s about our continued ability to live our lives at all.

    3. Everyone is creative. Not only does creativity come in a lot of different forms, it also gets stronger the more you practice it.

These three simple beliefs underpin every bit of content on this site, from sustainable swaps to slow living resources to the flowers I lovingly craft at my kitchen table.
